The practice was formed in 1983 and became a limited company in 1986. Throughout that time it has endured recessions and booms but kept its feet firmly on the ground throughout. Today the business has a firm financial base, a sound reputation and an enviable client base.

set out to achieve nearly 30 years ago.
Almost all of the work we undertake is either repeat business or from client referral. These projects range from single room domestic extensions to country mansions, from single dwelling developments to major multi unit schemes. Commercial building projects include shops, offices, warehouses, industrial units, clean rooms. We are award winners for listed building restoration, we have been commended for our design of modern buildings, three times we have been approached to appear in television documentaries along side our projects, three times we have declined. On two occasions projects have featured on national television, at the instigation of our clients and on several occasions projects have been featured in local or national magazines.
Our clients have included a number of senior figures from the Cambridge and London Universities, Local Hospitals, Scientific Research Institutes, Local, National and International Business figures and members of the British Government, Senior Civil Servants and EU Officials. Commercially we have worked for a number of Hospital Trusts, Residential and Commercial Property Developers and Local and National Businesses
Geographically we take on projects throughout Norfolk, Suffolk, Essex and Cambridgeshire as well as Greater London and as far south as the south coast of England. We have on occasions worked as far west as Birmingham and as far North as Glasgow in Scotland.
Stephen is highly thought of in professional circles, in all cases having been invited to he sits on The Executive Committee of the Construction Industry Council, The Eastern Region Committee for the Chartered Institute of Architectural Technologists, Membership Assessor for the Chartered Institute of Architectural Technologists, Member of the Cambridge City Council Planning Agents Forum and the South Cambridgeshire District Council Agents Forum as well as the Chartered Institute of Architectural Technologist Climate Change Task Force and being their Regional Education Officer.
Artek design employs a number of staff and specialist consultants including a Chartered Town Planning Consultant, a Chartered Structural Engineer, a Specialist Conservation Consultant, an Architect, two Architectural Technologists, an Architectural Student, a design draftsman, an Arbourculturalist, a Heating and Air Conditioning Engineer and a Chartered Quantity Surveyor. We also have others that we employ on a less frequent basis. Stephen, however, takes personal charge of all Artek projects.
Although we have experience of handling, in many cases leading, larger project design teams we tend to seek projects of between £100k and £5m in value we occasionally take on smaller or larger projects of suitable standing. The largest of these projects being a £30m residential development of a large, brown field, central Cambridge site, won in open competition against several other Cambridge practices for a national, quoted, developer.
The company has recently started to sponsor a local youth football team and also a couple of track cars.
